Brompton Road Station Up For Sale

For those who always seem to just miss the train for work in the morning, living in a tube station may not seem like a bad idea! Although Brompton Road Station is now out of service you would be buying into one of  the most expensive tube stops in London.

Situated In Knightsbridge Brompton Road Station is a prime piece of London real estate that will have the odd luxury developer raising an eyebrow or two. With the Candy brothers famous One Hyde Park scheme creating attractive price per sq ft for developers in the area you can get an idea of the type of scheme that will be created. Also the £20 million price tag will do little to deter the right buyer.

Far from a regular station it was purchased in 1938 by the War Department and converted to the headquarters of the Army’s 1st Anti-Aircraft Division. The odd sign of the stations past is littered through the  28,000 square foot building, with tunnels running deep below street level.

Julian Chafer, an MoD surveyor who has been working on the building, said: “It’s in a prime location, we’ve got (Grade II*-listed) Brompton Oratory next door, Harrods just down the street, so – subject to what planning authorities say – I think it is likely to be a residential development above ground. Quite what happens down here with this site is anybody’s guess.”

Converting buildings like Brompton Road Station goes on to highlight the diversity of types of residential dwellings available in London and also highlights the opportunities available to those who take risks in the London property market.
